Bernadette & Barry

Wurlod

Bernadette and Barry Wurlod are the founders and owners of Keayang Maar Vineyard. They are the second generation on the family dairy farm where Barry grew up, and they have lived together for over 40 years.

After retiring from dairy farming in 2005, the Wurlods leased the farm and indulged their other passions: Barry on cycling, fitness and personal training; Bernadette on theology, education and supervision of those providing spiritual care. Travelling through Europe developed their interest in grape and wine growing.  Their experiment in growing grapes at home turned into a hobby and, in 2019, they welcomed their son Jerram and daughter-in-law Caitlin home to help them take the next step of producing their wine commercially and opening the cellar door.

Today they are pleased to share with you their vineyard on the volcanic slopes of Keayang Maar and the breathtaking environment they call home, and are proud to showcase their cool-climate, handcrafted wines through tastings at the cellar door.

Caitlin & Jerram Wurlod

Caitlin and Jerram Wurlod assist with the daily operations and marketing for the vineyard. Their move home to Dixie from Melbourne in late 2019 was an opportunity to realise their dream of living in southwest Victoria with their young family.

Jerram has a background in film, television and events and has thoroughly enjoyed the switch from the fast-paced film industry in Melbourne to the constant demands and challenges of working on the farm. He is gaining an understanding of vine management as well as winemaking. Jerram is also the go to guy for larger events, including weddings. Caitlin has a background in agriculture with a special interest in stakeholder engagement, marketing and event management. Caitlin shares our story and organises things including our live music sessions at Keayang Maar. The transition to working on the family business has brought some new and exciting challenges as well as a lot of fun!
